Jan Culbertson is the 2011 W. Nelson Vander Hyden Award Winner
A3C’s Senior Principal, Jan Culbertson, was presented with the 2011 W. Nelson Vander Hyden Award by the Washtenaw Contractors Association. Each year the award is given to a professional in the field who exemplifies high standards of professionalism, commitment to the improvement of the construction industry and is dedicated to the betterment of the community as a whole.
Jan is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a LEED® Accredited professional. For over 30 years she has been practicing architecture in the Southeast Michigan region and has managed numerous healthcare, higher education and sustainable projects for A3C. Jan is certified through the Green Building Certification Institute’s (GBCI) to perform LEED Application Reviews and facilitates both LEED AP study groups and LEED Green Associate training classes on a regular basis.
Jan is active in her professional community as the President of the AIA Huron Valley Chapter, on the USGBC Detroit Regional Chapter Education Committee and the Project Presentation Committee for the Michigan Health Facilities Planning Seminar. Her recent community roles have included Social Chairman for First United Methodist Church, World Peace Café Team Leader and Project Coordinator for the Boundless Playground at High Point.
A3C – Collaborative Architecture was also a part of two projects nominated for Best Project Team including the Chelsea Milling Company R&D and Tour Facility Addition Project for projects Under $3 Million and the University of Michigan MCIT Data Center for projects $3 – $25 Million.
