Project Description

First United Methodist Church of Chelsea

First United Methodist Church of Chelsea studied its building for 10 years trying to decide how to meet its growing needs and provide barrier free access. A3C, through the use of a church-wide Charrette and a Fellowship Focus, assisted the church in developing a Master Plan concept that addressed their concerns and was supported by the entire congregation.

The $2 million plus project was designed to be built in three phases. The first phase incorporated a new entry and drop-off. The second phase renovated the undercroft area as an office suite. The last phase was an addition that included a commercial kitchen, fellowship hall, and classrooms. The addition successfully complements the historic structure, creating an interior courtyard for fellowship and respite. The new entry and fellowship hall create gathering spaces to allow the existing space to gracefully expand the sanctuary seating.
