Project Description

Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church and School

A3C completed the original Master Plan for a major expansion of programs and facilities for the Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in 1999. The building program took the Church from its modest facilities to a religious, educational, and cultural center serving the broad range of the families’ needs. The expanded complex, included a new sanctuary, offices, elementary school, and classrooms, with various expanded support facilities.

In 2014, A3C was re-engaged by the church to update the Master Plan and develop an expansion of the school. The Master Plan calls for the facilities to be arranged around the unique natural landscape of the site, a densely wooded dell. The congregation and A3C determined early on in design vision sessions with church members, to preserve the dell. The new spaces are oriented to take advantage of views into the trees as well as light coming through this area.

The planning process included numerous discussions with the church membership, its building committee, the staff, the ministers, and finally received approval of the full congregation.
