Project Description

University of Michigan – School of Social Work Conference Center

The School of Social Work occupies a new building, centrally located on the University of Michigan Central Campus. The School desired to build-out a ground floor shell space to provide a state-of-the-art venue for International Conferences, teaching, and fund-raising activities. The design required creative effort to accommodate the existing mechanical systems without compromising acoustical or aesthetic requirements. A small pantry was included to facilitate food service for conference functions. Two independent concealed partitions permit multiple configurations for conferencing, small and large group meetings, and classroom instruction. A sophisticated audio-visual system, integrated with the room lighting, supports all room configurations and uses. Natural maple woodwork provides rich detail on the presentation wall and ceiling of the Conference Center, accented by natural cherry and brushed aluminum details. Coordinating patterns of richly toned carpet anchor the space, while the fabric-covered walls provide acoustical treatment in an elegant space.
