Scio Township Fire Station was built in 1985 and little has been done to improve it over the last 35 years. When the Township Board decided to update the station, they chose A3C, who has an established relationship with the Township, based on our fire station experience. A3C is currently involved with two other local fire station projects. The main reasons for the improvements are to address upgrading the Apparatus Bay and Crew Quarters to current fire station standards, while also addressing ADA compliance and energy efficiency.

Decontamination (Decon) spaces have become one of the most important new spaces in fire stations. These separated areas are for decontaminating the firefighter’s turnout gear and equipment. Since the attacks on 9-11, a large amount of research has demonstrated the importance of proper cleaning of personal protective equipment (PPE) and firefighting equipment to keep the firefighters safe, especially from carcinogens.

The improvements will also address creating a space that meets the needs of a more diverse firefighting staff. The project has been planned for two phases. The first phase will be the expansion of the Apparatus Bay to accommodate two fire trucks parked end to end. This phase will also include upgrading the building envelope and adding the Decon areas. The second phase will be the interior improvements.
