First National Bank of Howell – Green Oak Branch

First National Bank is one of the first banks in the country to receive USGBC LEED Certification for it’s environmentally friendly design. Upon initial occupancy, the 3,500 sf facility was the second smallest commercial building in the country to be certified showcasing the benefits of sustainable design in the small business environment.

Environmental features include wood materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ceramic tile from recycled glass, and cellulose insulation made from recycled newspaper. Over 75% of construction waste was diverted from the landfill. Energy use has been reduced by 46% with an advanced lighting system, water heater system, instant-on hot water, and heating and cooling provided by ground source heat pumps. Water use has been reduced by 46% using faucets with on/off sensors and low-flush toilets. Indoor Air Quality was improved through the use of operable windows and the elimination of VOC’s in paints & adhesives.
