Project Description

Huron Ophthalmology

Huron Ophthalmology is a single story, medical office building located on a 3.7 acre site on the campus of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The building welcomes you with a water feature and a beautiful, daylit waiting area. Patients are escorted to one of four clinical pods served by two dilation waiting areas. Offices and a staff lounge line the facility perimeter providing staff with both daylight and views. A full service optical shop is conveniently located adjacent to the waiting area and entrance.

The facility includes several sustainable features. A geoexchange system is used to heat and cool the building, reducing the building’s energy use by about 40%. Other sustainable features incorporated into the design include high performance glazing, materials with recycled content, WaterSense plumbing fixtures, bike lockers, and a locker room with a shower to encourage biking/walking to work. The building is also located near public transportation.
